Up Close & Personal With Dolphins

At Dubai Dolphinarium we have 6 dolphins. Want to know more about them? Here are some facts about dolphins!

How many dolphins are there at Dubai Dolphinarium?

- We have 6 bottlenose dolphins – Senya, Ksyusha, Jerry, Tetka, Fekla & Kai.

 How do dolphins sleep?

- Marine dolphins sleep with one eye open and the other eye closed. A dolphin has to be conscious to breathe and two parts of their brain take turns to rest. When the left hemisphere rests, the right eye of the dolphin is closed and when the right hemisphere rests the left eye is closed

Do dolphins drink water?

- Salt water dolphins live in the seas and oceans, but they do not drink water as the sea water is too salty and drinking salt water can make them sick and can even kill them. Dolphins do need water to survive and they get most of their water from their food (mainly fish and squid). They can also make water by burning their fat. Just a tablespoon of water in a dolphin’s lung could drown it.
